🏺 The Wobbly Little Pot

“I don’t throw clay away. Not one scrap. I make it again.”

A lump of clay is sure he is going to be the tallest vase in the workshop. Then he pulls away from the Potter’s hands, and everything goes flop.

He thinks he is headed for the scrap bucket. Instead, the Potter gathers up every piece, makes him again, and does something very strange: he cuts holes in him. Stars. A moon. Dots like a night sky. It is only when one small flame is set inside that the little pot finally sees what he was made for.

A warm, funny read-aloud about the hands that shape us, the things we wish were different, and the light we were made to carry.

👧 Ages 4–8 📖 40 Pages 🎨 Fully Illustrated ✝️ Jeremiah 18 🎁 Gift Edition

📚 What’s Inside

A story in 18 illustrated spreads
From the damp cloth to the wheel, the flop, the scrap bucket, the kiln and the night the workshop filled with stars.
A Potter children will love
Warm, patient and a little funny. His hands are always open; he never scolds. The pot leaves them; the Potter waits.
A cat with a story of her own
Look for the workshop cat on every spread, including the page where a blob of clay lands on her head.
Real pottery, gently explained
Wedging, centring, resting the clay, piercing, firing. Each real step carries its meaning without a sermon.
A note for the grown-up reading
The verse behind the story (Jeremiah 18:4), two passages to read together, and four bedtime questions.
A keepsake page
“This book was given to ___ by ___ on ___” for baptisms, dedications, Easter baskets and birthdays.

✝️ The Truth Underneath

Long ago, God sent Jeremiah to watch a potter at work. A pot went wrong on the wheel, and the potter did not throw the clay away. “So he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.”

The story never preaches. The Potter is simply a kind craftsman with clay under his fingernails, and the Bible connection is revealed on the last page, so children meet the truth through the story first.

  • Jeremiah 18:1–6 — the potter’s house
  • Isaiah 64:8 — we are the clay, and thou our potter
  • 2 Corinthians 4:7 — treasure in earthen vessels

Scripture quotations are from the King James Version.

💛 Why Families Will Reach for It Again

  • It is funny. “Is this necessary?” asks the lump, mid-squish. Children laugh at the FLOP page every time.
  • It is honest about mistakes. The pot pulls away, falls, and is sure he is finished. The answer is not “try harder.” The answer is the Potter’s hands.
  • The flaw becomes the gift. The holes he hated are exactly what let the light out.
  • One line to keep. “Hold still, little one. I know what I’m making.” Said three times, meaning something new each time.

🎁 Perfect For

  • Bedtime and family devotions
  • Baptism, dedication and First Communion gifts
  • Easter baskets and Christmas stockings
  • Sunday school and church libraries
  • Any child who has ever felt they went wrong
